M'Bishi Gas Chem Saudi JV Becomes World's Top Methanol Producer
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co. said Tuesday a new large-scale methanol plant at its Saudi Arabian joint venture has started operations.
With the launch of its fifth plant, Saudi Methanol Co., the JV with Saudi Basic Industries Corp., a chemical giant better known as SABIC, has become one of the world's largest methanol producers, the Japanese company said.
The newly built plant, which has annual output capacity of 1.7 million tons chemical products, will boost Saudi Methanol's total production capacity to 5 million tons.
The methanol produced at the plant will mostly be exported to Asian countries, including China, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical said.
